Vignettes and photos
You can take up to 12 photos per scene and keep four of them in the journal. Vignettes are unlocked by gathering the pink petals found around each area.
Forever Ago's camera isn't a collectible strapped onto the story — it is the story. Alfred documents his trip the way Audrey taught him, and the photos you take end up in the journal that carries the whole game. Here's how the system works, and what to do about the vignettes.

How the camera works
- Twelve shots per scene. Each area lets you take up to 12 photographs. Scenes are generous, but they are limited, so don't click through the big ones.
- Four keepers per chapter. When a chapter closes, you choose four photos to press into the journal's frames for that page. The rest stay as a record but don't make the album.
- Zoom and crouch both matter. The camera zooms, and crouching gets you closer to small subjects — flowers, insects, a good dog. Some photo spots only frame correctly from a crouch.
- The timer is for two. Any photo you want to be in, use the timer: set it, get in position, and wait out the countdown. The selfie moments late in the game work the same way.
- Shake the print. Polaroids develop in your hand — shake each print once and the image appears. It's also one of the game's small pleasures.
The journal
The journal is your chapter checklist and your album at once. Audrey wrote the lists; Alfred checks them off, adds tickets and stickers, and fills the four photo frames on each spread. When a chapter ends, the game walks you through picking your four keepers — this is the last call to use shots you cared about, so don't rush past it.
Vignettes: the memory scenes
Vignettes are Forever Ago's collectible, and the loop is simple:
- Gather pink petals as you explore an area — they sit slightly off the path, at the edges of clearings, near water and around landmarks.
- A memory rises once the petals in a spot are collected.
- Photograph the memory scene to reveal the full vignette.
The first vignette unlocks Glimpse Into The Past; collecting every one completes Petal Collector. There's no tracker screaming at you, so the practical habit is: if you see a petal, take it, and if a spot feels like somewhere Audrey would stop, look around it twice.
The photo achievements
Two achievements are pure counts: Focus Finder wants 25 photos and Picture Perfect wants 50, both across the whole journey. The math is friendly — nine chapters of 12-shot scenes — as long as you don't treat the camera like a cutscene button. Shoot the small things: signage, the van, Audrey's flowers, the dog mid-flight, and the places that match her lists.
What to point the camera at
The journal's own pages are the best checklist for a chapter: its spread shows themed drawings of what matters there. Alongside those, these never disappoint:
- Chapter signage and trail markers — the places remember being named.
- The van, from every angle you're near it — Alfred's second home earns its screen time.
- Everyone you meet — characters stand still for portraits more often than you'd expect.
- Anything Audrey would have painted — flowers, overlooks, the sea.
