Read →Updated 2026-10-09Forever Ago is a story-driven road trip adventure from Third Shift and Annapurna Interactive, released October 8, 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2. You play Alfred — a man in his seventies driving north through the places that made up his life with his late wife, Audrey — armed with a Polaroid camera and the hand-illustrated journal she left behind.
This site is a field guide to that trip: the full nine-chapter walkthrough, all 29 achievements, the photo and vignette collectibles, and straight answers to the questions players ask on the road. Everything here is aligned with the launch build and updated as the road reveals more.
What you're in for
Nine chapters run from a 1974 summer at Woolson Falls to a snowbound climb up Williamina Peak, all of it in the present day's northern drive with memories layered in between. There's no combat, no fail state, no timer — just a journal's worth of small tasks, a camera with twelve shots per scene, and a world built to be looked at. Three to five hours, depending on how often you stop. You should stop often.
Before you set off
- Shoot first, choose later. Each chapter lets you keep four photos in the journal — take everything, pick the four that matter at the close.
- If a prompt won't show up, move. Interactions only register from the right spot; circle the object once before you call it a bug.
- Collect petals on sight. The pink petals raise the memory vignettes, and finding all of them is an achievement.
- Rest at every seat. Alfred can rest at benches and quiet spots throughout; doing it every time in one run is the strictest achievement in the game.
- Mind the autosaves. There's no manual save — finish a scene before closing the game, not a sentence in the middle.
Quick answers
- How long is Forever Ago? Three to five hours — about three if you mainline it, five if you take photos and wander.
- Can I miss anything? The story, no — it's linear and unfailable. Vignettes, photo moments and achievements can slip past, and there's no chapter select to go back with.
- Is it on Game Pass? Yes — day one, console and PC, alongside PS5, Switch 2 and Steam.
- Does it have combat or difficulty settings? Neither, on both counts.
